Recap and Review

*Warning Contains Spoilers*

First and foremost, let me say I loved the “Duck Dynasty” reference, compliments of Ann.  It’s always amazing when a pop culture phenomenon is referenced in a TV show.  It makes me giggle.  I don’t know if anyone else feels the same, but I think it’s fun, even if it dates the show.

Ryland was released from jail and the Ewings weren’t happy.  Each handled it in their own way. John Ross attempted to convince Bum to come up with the evidence to get him back in.  Bobby called in a favor with their Senator friend.   However, Ryland had his own set of problems.  First, his daughter turned on him, and got into bed with the Ewings (literally). He also has his mother back from the rehab hospital Ryland threw her into.  Emma had her own set plans, so Ryland had to get his business adventures back in order and try to keep Emma out of it.

Judith forced Ryland to take her to the meeting with the drug cartel and she used her feminine wiles and considerable business sense to renegotiate the deal and get their business back in the “right” way.   Judith is that character you hate, but you have to respect her.  You have to root for her because she knows how to get the job done.

John Ross is an idiot.  Cheating on Pamela was just plain stupid.  When you’re married, you don’t sleep with other people.  It’s also stupid because Pamela will turn against him and mostly likely destroy him.  Has he forgot Pamela was Rebecca for a season and married Christopher just to do her father’s bidding and get a share of the Ewing family’s company.

I love that Sue Ellen knew what was going on and was smart enough to recognize signs of trouble. I hate that Bum covered for John Ross even though I love that Bum confronted John Ross about the way his father had run around on Sue Ellen.   I hope Sue Ellen stays sober enough to know she’s right and confronts John Ross about it, soon, because I think she is the only one who can knock any sense to that boy.  Hopefully John Ross will stop this stupid behavior.

Things always come down to Bobby and Christopher vs John Ross.  John Ross wanted to frack the land at South Fork, because the shale was within John Ross’ surface rights.   The Ewings needed the money to get the Atlantic Deal and John Ross insisted on using the oil at South Fork.  I can’t wait to see how this will play out.  I was happy when the ranch hand we met in the last episode went off on Christopher.  I know we were introduced to his new love interest and it will only be a matter of time before they end up in bed together.

Now the twist:  Ryland isn’t so bad.  What?!  I wasn’t expecting that and I don’t like it.  I want him to be the bad guy.  I’m not okay with him working for the CIA and going after Mexican war lords. Especially because if Bobby and Ann don’t go along with it, Emma or Ann could get killed.

Loved this episode and am ready to watch the next one, “Playing Chicken.”

I’m watching. Are you?
